Associate Director
Associate Director, Science Education Rank – Associate Professional Specialist/Professional Specialist The Council on Science & Technology at Princeton University seeks an Associate Director, Science Education (Rank – Associate Professional Specialist/Professional Specialist) with a background in Engineering to join the Princeton Science and Engineering Education Initiative. The goal of the Initiative is to prepare all Princeton students, irrespective of their majors, to become scientifically- and technologically engaged citizens and decision-makers. A series of lab and non-lab courses will be created or re-designed to teach our future leaders not only facts and skills but also the key roles that science and engineering play in society. The Specialist will be responsible for the re-design and creation of engineering courses for non-engineering majors. This individual will join a team of 3 Professional Specialists – each with a PhD in physics, environmental science, or engineering. Together, the team of specialists will be expected to implement the initiative, in close collaboration with Princeton's McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning and the Council on Science & Technology. The Professional Specialist in Engineering will have a central role in crafting a pedagogically innovative model for educating the next generation of undergraduate students in topics related to engineering. Initially, the applicant will likely spearhead the development of a course in robotics. The principal responsibility of this position consists of direct and ongoing collaborative work with members of the faculty, to design and put into practice innovative laboratory and classroom exercises that meet the learning objectives of the engineering courses designed for non-engineering majors. Additional responsibilities include the design of course curricula, collaborative work to discover points of intersection among courses across the disciplines, the development of models and materials that facilitate interactive laboratory teaching and learning, the creation of protocols for assessment and evaluation, the evaluation of success of different pedagogical models, and the provision of pedagogical workshops for science and engineering assistants in instruction (TAs). Essential Qualifications - Ph.D. in a field of Engineering. The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is seeking nominations and applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level beginning Fall 2012, at a salary of $83,000. The Department of Chemical Engineering currently has seven faculty members and over 200 students. The teaching and research facilities within the department are well equipped and serve as foundational components of the program. The department is also home to numerous research entities and is very active with several university-wide centers and institutes.

Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering
The Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering (CAE) at the University of Miami (UM) invites applications and nominations for tenure-track positions at any professorial level with start date of August 15, 2012. Center for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP)
The Center for Urban Science and Progress (CUSP)—an applied science and engineering institute, newly created by NYU as a consortium of world-class universities, global technology corporations, and innovative urban designers—will focus on the challenges that an increasingly urbanized planet will face in the coming decades: how to accommodate more people in cities, safely, prosperously and sustainably.
The consortium seeks a director who will be the inaugural chief academic officer and reports directly to the NYU Provost. She/he will be responsible for setting the research vision for the center, serve the day-to-day needs of the organization, ensure productive collaboration with each partner institution, and leverage the resources of partners and of the larger NYU network to drive innovation.
Academic partners of NYU and NYU-Poly—City University of New York, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Toronto, University of Warwick and Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay—house vigorous applied-science and engineering programs with particular strengths in this leading-edge topic of urban systems. CUSP’s founding industrial partners are among the most prominent companies in the world. They include Cisco, IBM, Siemens, Xerox, Consolidated Edison, National Grid, IDEO, ARUP, and AECOM. They bring global experience conceptualizing and commercializing smart city solutions. The research and discoveries of CUSP will position New York City at the vanguard of the emerging economic sector of urban science and engineering.
The director will have specific responsibility for: Articulating a clear vision for the future and mobilizing strategic plans; Growing and leading CUSP’s world-class research program; Representing CUSP effectively in public relations; Spearheading resource development and fundraising; Developing partnerships with government agencies and other public service organizations; Designing and implementing CUSP’s organizational structure; Coordinating with partner institutions and corporations to bring CUSP to fruition.
At full strength, CUSP will have 50 principal investigators (tenured and tenure-track faculty, research scientists from the industrial partners), over 400 Master’s students, 100 Ph.D. students, and 30 post-docs. This academic core will spark new technologies, discoveries, and innovations; lead to new businesses and job creation; educate the workforce for the high-tech urban science sector; and position New York City as the world capital of applied urban science.
The preferred candidate will be a visionary permanent leader for CUSP whose record in science, engineering and technology merits holding a named professorship. The director must not only be an accomplished scientist, but also someone who moves at ease in the world of industrial science and real-world engineering.
An earned doctorate or relevant combination of academic and professional achievement in science, engineering and/or technology related fields is required.

The Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) seeks applications for the position of preceptor
or senior preceptor in design-based instruction in mechanical engineering for the 2012-13 academic year, with an expected start date of July 1, 2012. The preceptor position has an initial appointment of three years, and is then renewable annually for up to five additional years. The senior preceptor position is for a five-year renewable term.
Candidates should have proven design experience in mechanical engineering, such as machine design, materials,
robotics, embedded systems, etc., and be able to demonstrate practical, hands-on experience building prototypes for real-world/industry applications. These positions require a strong passion for and commitment to working closely with students. Candidates must possess the ability to advise students to: interact with customers to clearly identify design opportunities; develop creative solution concepts; use analysis and experiments to guide design decisions; make multi-dimensional design tradeoffs; and create detailed solid models and working prototypes. Additional professional experience, teaching experience, and/or P.E. license is preferred, as is knowledge of several sub-disciplines: Site Development, Infrastructure, Geomatics, Surveying, Roadway design, Water Resources, Sustainability Engineering, and a demonstrated ability in applied research and in developing industry contacts.
